Explaining the shop’s value before the product grid

Appealing products and strong local character needed a clearer introduction before visitors started browsing.

BACKGROUND

The business and its homepage

A local gift shop had a distinctive homepage with appealing product photography and a strong connection to its area. The products gave the page plenty of character, but the clearest explanation of the shop and its value appeared later than a new visitor may expect.

WHAT THE REVIEW FOUND

The fresh-eyes view

The homepage displayed an interesting product range and a recognisable local identity. However, the opening led with imagery before clearly explaining the offer, there was no single shopping action, mobile product rows felt crowded and useful gift-wrapping and delivery reassurance appeared too far down.

Recommendations

Four changes worth
considering.

These suggestions focus on clarity and the customer journey rather than technical changes behind the website.

  1. 01

Add a hero headline explaining the type of shop, its location and its local focus.

  2. 02

Choose one clear primary shopping button near the top of the homepage.

  3. 03

Show fewer products per row on mobile and give product names more room.

  4. 04

Move gift-wrapping and delivery reassurance above the main product grids.

01
THE FIRST CHANGE WE’D MAKE

Add a plain-English opening that explains what the shop sells and why it is distinctive, followed by a clear shopping action and its strongest reassurance.

This is already a charming, well-presented homepage with good local character. A little more clarity at the top would make it easier for new visitors to understand the shop and start browsing.
